What do you think the media are there to do? Apparently report the news, but it seems to me they are more interested in mis-quotes, stirring up trouble and badgering people into saying thinks they don't mean. What do you think?

Originally, I think it's job was to inform and report however, this is clearly not the case today! Many reporters today are like lawyers. Their courtroom is our newspapers and televsion sets, radios and even the Internet. They are not reporting the news, they are presenting their case - their viewpoint. They will "spin," twist, and paint the facts in such a way that it seems like they are telling us the truth. However, much of the time they are not. They want to win us over to their worldview in the area of politics, religion, whatever. They know we make judgements and decisions, especially at the voting both, based upon what we perceive as reality.

This is where the real war is fought. And they are shameless about it. Just last year a NBC reporter got caught trying to exagerate a flood's level. She was in a canoe, talking about how tough it was for people - insinuating that the water level was very deep when two people accidentally walked by. The water was only ankle deep! This sort of thing happens every single day!! We need to be very skeptical of our media and take what they say not with a "grain of salt" but with a salt-shaker!!

The true purpose of the media is to act as the Fourth Estate, as a check-and-balance between the church, the government and the people. Of course, you should probably throw companies in there as well. Unfortunately, most news outlets have lost much of their journalistic integrity over a period of time for various reasons, namely inciting scandals, lying, etc. That's not the initial reason for the media, but it is the reason why I no longer work directly in the media business.

Media are controlled by the big banks. If you do a search on who owns what things become more and more clear. The sheeple are awakening the lies and the false divisions are diversions to the truth. NWO.

You are a fool if you do not question the media. This is fact. Prove it wrong to yourself if you are that programmed to disagree.

the media is here solely to make money, increase ratings and control the minds of the weak...and they do. its amazing the lies people buy into without even thinking. personally i watch most of the news stations and take their reporting with a grain of salt then i do my own research if i am interested in a certain subject. knowledge is power and those that trust the media for their knowledge are powerless....and stupid.

I just had an essay question fairly similar to your question-was discussing if the media are complicit in terrorism. Actually got really in to it Baudrillard (french socialist philospher) who I had to cite. His works are actually really interesting and not over stuffy to read..If your really interested, look up his work-tis good reading material on the media...have fun!
