We have a grapefruit tree that produces every year and we have no use for the fruit. We would like to keep there tree as it is very beautiful in our yard. Any idea on how we could sterilize it to stop producing fruit, other than manually removing the buds before they are pollenated?

Bonide used to make a product called Fruit Eliminator. They stopped but other companies make similar products. It's a hormone that makes the flowers "think" they were pollinated when they really weren't. Call some good nurseries or lawn and garden centers in your area. They will know what you are talking about if you ask for Fruit Eliminator.

Now that's a first! Everyone I know is absolutely desperate to get their citrus to set fruit! I'm sure they have some kind of spray or chemical application at Home Depot or Lowe's. I've never checked as I've only been to the fertilizing section to get my trees to bear fruit. =D

you could move up to where we are and have absolutelyno luck getting our grapefruit and uglifruit to set! maybe if you removed the pollinators.
