The Effects of Marijuana During Pregnancy
Pot and pregnancy don't mix. Marijuana contains over 300 chemicals. The active ingredient, THC (tetra-hydro-cannabinol) influences brain chemistry in a way similar to alcohol. It affects your memory and slows your thinking and reflexes.

Marijuana has been shown to affect babies, too.
We know that marijuana crosses the placenta, and can be found in the newborn's body for up to a month after a single use. Just like smoking tobacco, it causes less oxygen and food to get to the baby. This factor alone affects your baby's growth and brain development. Newborns of mothers who have used marijuana throughout pregnancy cry more. Some studies suggest that children exposed to marijuana while in the womb are at increased risk for attention disorders and learning problems that might not show up until school age.

Tell your friend that she is ruining her baby life and it isn't fair to him/her. Hope this info will help. Best of Luck.

The baby will not end up addicted to marijuana as some of the answerers have stated. The problem would lie in the baby's physical health. Babies born to mothers who smoke marijuana during pregnancy end up smaller than those born under regular conditions, which is a sign of an unhealthy baby. Everything your friend puts into her body also goes into her baby's body, as well. It might be funny now, but if her kid ends up with some sort of motor disability or developmental disorder, she will certainly not be laughing.

As soon as the baby is born and it starts going through withdrawls the nurses and doctors will call CPS and have them take the baby out of your care. A baby can be born early because of drug addiction, the baby can have multiple birth defects because of drug addiction. If I were you I would stop doing drugs or being near anyone that is doing drugs to keep your baby safe.

No one in their right mind would advocate that pregnant women endanger their developing babies. But surely, illicit drug use is not as significant a problem as many other factors which can lead to serious consequences for a developing fetus. Like every other aspect of the drugwar, however, this one is blown entirely out of proportion to reality. We must also always bear in mind that for the most part, most drug users are not pregnant. Indeed, there are actually very few drug using pregnant women -- and most of those drink alcohol.

I agree it is not the best thing in the world to do,
I know someone right after the positive pregnant test had some
mushrooms (not portabella) and smoked pot and continued to smoke through 2 pregnancies.
Nothing happened luckily to the 2 kids, but on the other hand, how many times have you drivin drunk and made it. Luck plays a part and it is best to not put yourself in known dangerous situations.

Boy, that's really responsible of your friend.

This is what I found on the subject:

Is it safe to smoke marijuana during pregnancy?

No. Smoking marijuana during pregnancy may affect your baby's growth and the development of his nervous system. Studies have shown that children who were exposed to marijuana during pregnancy sometimes have problems focusing their attention and solving problems.
Children of heavy pot users may also have problems with short-term memory, concentration, and judgment. (There's no evidence so far, however, that marijuana use during pregnancy causes attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).
One study even found that young children whose mothers smoked marijuana during pregnancy had a higher risk of leukemia than those whose mothers did not.
What's more, there's no way to know if the pot you're smoking has been laced with other drugs (such as PCP) or contaminated with pesticides, which would put your baby at even higher risk. And using marijuana increases the chance that your baby will have birth defects if you're also drinking alcohol or smoking tobacco.
If you smoked pot before you realized you were pregnant, don't panic. The chance that your baby has been affected is very small. Still, it's important to be honest with your practitioner about your previous use of pot and other recreational drugs. She may want to run some extra tests to be sure your baby is developing normally.

i ahd a friend who drank and got high while she was pregnant. The baby is mentally slow. Another friends baby was born 2 months after hers. The normal baby was sitting up before the slow baby could hold its head up and it was two months older. It's mentally screwed. At 8 months, it had no coordination. It couldn't pick up anything, even though it tried. That last time I saw it, it wasn't even trying to crawl. Her baby is going to be mentally screwed for the rest of its life and it's going to be all her fault. They drug test at the hospitol. Hopfully, they'll take the baby away from her cause it sounds like she's going to be a bad parent.

Well it sure is easy for everyone to criticize you friend.
All though I don't think its a great idea well smoking weed well pregnant there is no proof that is does all the things everyone is saying it does.
I had a friend who smoked up until a few weeks before the baby was born and she had a very healthy baby.
This is the only article with scientific research to back it up that i have found www.yahooka.com/forum/printthread.php?t=60499

actually marijuana is not shown to have nearly the effects of cocaine, nicotine or alcohol on the baby. marijuana in fact has shown almost no long-term effects on adults either, aside from temporary memory loss. of course, i think she should stop! it's not fair to the baby. but, really, if she's going to do anything, MJ is probably the safest. its' not funny though. also, i think it's very funny that very misinformed people on here are telling you MJ is addictive. it's not. the baby can not have withdrawal from it. sorry.

She is just putting her baby at risk for problems. That's just like someone going out drinking and thinking it's funny. You may not cause any damage to the baby, but why the heck would you want to take a chance?!?
