I probably would have grabbed the manager immediately, not paid, and left the restaurant. But they would have know that I was not happy. I then would have called the health department in my county and filed a complaint.
Then, assuming this was a chain restaurant, like applebees or something, I would have contacted their corporate office. The last thing they need is someone threatening to sue them because of bugs.
And of course, I would never go back.
However, there are issues with restaurants. All of them. No matter how clean they try to be, they serve food. As long as they serve food, they will have a bug or two running around. If they are careful and make sure that they spray when they are supposed to, it will keep the bug population minimal and chances of finding peices and parts in your soup will be kept to a minimum.

No, I definitely wouldn't be discrete about it. I wouldn't jump up and shout over the whole restaurant but I would talk to the waiter in a not-so-quiet voice.
I would also tell everyone I knew what had happened and warn them about going to that place.
Also, I wouldn't be above phoning the Health Authorities about that. This sounds like a place that deserves to be shut down.
That is so disgusting!

interesting yet authorities facilitates a particular percentag of insects to be blanketed in all nutrition. looks manufacturers won't be able to stay away from all insects. issues only get swept into the batter or regardless of and the corporation isn't required by using regulation to even acnowldge that the insects are in there. that's considered accepatble see you later because the share of insects is kept at a cdertain huge style. So even as your ingesting rice crispies and observe some thing black ....that is not any longer a stray raison nor a burnt crispy possibilities is its a trojan horse or some stray debris that the FDA helps. so a ways as cockroaches bypass they deliver diseases and bypass previous whats accepated so capacity you are able to nicely be able to have fines levied againsts reported eating position or atleast have them evaluated by using the board of health!

I agree with David L. Having worked in restaurants for years, it's a never-ending battle with bugs and they have to be VERY stringent about food storage, exterminators, and cleaning. Since you can't usually see how clean the kitchen is, I have found that the cleanliness of the public restroom is a pretty reliable indicator of the cleanliness of the kitchen.

Oh my gosh! You were really cool under such a situation. Not sure I could have done that. I have this 'thing' about roaches! I hope you notified the health department for an inspection!!
BTW..I probably would have puked my guts out..right there. Not sure I could have been so discrete!

First of all being in management, I as a manager would appreciate your discretion, but unfortunately roaches can appear in the cleanest of resturants, they live on staples of glue, but there was no excuse for them to be in your food. I hope they returned your money and also i would be on the phone to the health department, because something very nasty must be going on there

Discrete? Hell no. Think aobut this. The one in your spoon was the one that got caught. How amny could have been eaten by people that didn't even know they were there. I can put up with a lot, rude waiters, bad service, but if they's critters in my food, EVERYbody is hearing about it.

I would make it known that there was a cockroach in my food. So that other people would hear it. And of course not pay for the meal!!! Never go back and report them to the proper authorities!!!

I would calmly ask to speak to the manager, I would ask to NOT pay for my meal and I would QUICKLY report them to the Better Business Bureas AS WELL as the county health department.
