Sophie's Choice with Meryl Streep. It's from the early 80's. She plays a Jew sent to a concentration camp with her 2 kids. The Nazis won't allow her to keep both kids so she has to make a choice, between her son or daughter, who goes to the gas chamber. Horrifying and sad.

"Savannah Smiles". Its a film from the early 80's about this little 5 year old girl who runs away from her "to busy" parents and ends up running with two bumbling thieves. They forge a unique friendship and the end of the film is tear-jerking. I haven't seen it in years.

Gigot..i think it was made in the 60's and it starred the great one, Jackie Gleason. He played a mute and befriended a little girl who was also a prostitutes daughter. It was so sad but so wonderful. check it out, it's a classic.
