You can't convince anyone of their mistakes, it will have to be them realizing it after time. If they have truely made a mistake, give them time and they will realize they messed up. Don't try to tell them, that will only put them in denial of making the mistake, let them figure it out on their own by time.

The best approach is to understand their view of the problem.
Remember they don't see a mistake. What they do have is a thousand rationalizations that make it right.
Your neighbor makes a lot of noise at night.
Do you: 1) Ask him politely to make less noise?
or
2) Kill him?
Whatever you do, the reason for for your action stays the same. It stays the same for the thousands of other 'solutions' between 1) and 2) above.
Obviously, somewhere between 1) and 2) the 'solution' becomes a mistake on your part. But where? When you start shouting at the neighbor or when you start throwing things at him?
So, back to your problem. Are you trying to get someone to see a mistake or would you prefer to help them find a better solution?

Depends on what mistake..maybe write them a long letter, go and get them a book on the subject they can read and do some soul searching on.Get them an appointment with a shrink. Good luck!!

People have to realize their mistakes on their own, or they keep making them. They have to learn on their own to change their behavior which causes mistakes. They have to learn to think before acting!! You can't force or convince people to look at themselves, it takes a life event to make people look at themselves and their actions.

With some people, you CAN'T. A lot of people seem like they're programmed to NOT recognise that they may be in error about ANYTHING. You'll notice they usually try blaming everyone else BUT themselves for their own actions.
