In the US, the general mistreatment of animals is outlawed. This does not specifically mention but includes zoosexual acts. There's no law specifically prohibitic sex with animals, but such is considered "abusive" or "mistreatment" of the animal. Animals can be greatly distressed and/or harmed in these acts.
Some states are more vague about jurisdiction of the law and the acts can be considered legal.
Laws in other countries are in place originally because of religious beliefs. In some countries, this act is not outlawed, such as Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
As a note: It is impossible to produce offspring between a human and another animal (excepting perhaps other apes).

No, there is no scientific evidence that it bothers them... but there is scientific evidence that the people who want to have sex with animals are mentally ill and possess no moral compass. It is abhorrent to say the least that anyone would make sex with animals legal based on their indifference.... they dont have morals so of course it doesnt bother them... us humans should have morals, and if beastiality doesnt "bother" you then you are mentally ill and sexually deviant. If I had it my way the penalty for beastiality would be death, so that the perpetrators couldnt pass on their bad genetics to the next generation.

Well, I believe the reason most countries list it as illegal is because the Bible says bestiality is a sin.
However if what you are asking is that most people don't is because there is no reason to. Sex and physical attraction developed so the human race can reproduce itselves. Since humans and other animals aren't genetically compatible there is no attraction, so most people don't do it.
That is not to say it hasn't been done, bottlenose dolphins have been known to spontaneously 'flirt' (using body language) with other humans, especially their keepers, but that is the exception, they are the only nonhuman species to do that as far as I know.

Simply because most cultures, American culture
in particular, have such neurotic hangups about
sex. Generally speaking, if it bothers the animal
it will let you know about it in no uncertain terms,
to the point that you may be injured if you persist.
And, despite one of your answerers, no dog was
ever made pregnant by intercourse with a human,
it just isn't possible. Assuming there is any truth
at all in this story the dog was undoubtedly already
pregnant when the boys had at it.

Isn't there enough human beings on the planet for you to have sex with? After all, you are human right? Don't we have enough diseases spreading around sexually with humans and now you want to start f*cking animals? You need some serious @ss therapy! I wish I knew you. I would have you thrown in the animal shelter just so they could put your tired @ss to sleep permenantly. How disgusting!

Of course it doesn't bother them; they are animals. That's what animals do; eat, sleep, have sex. Animal mentality is "if it's old enough to bleed, it's old enough to breed". It's the people who should be bothered by this. There are enough willing men and women in the world available for copulation so that no one should have to resort to a rendevous with Spot or Trigger.

What a disturbing Question .......It is not sex with,it is rape and It is very sick ....If I saw a person acting that savage and violating a poor Innocent helpless animal I would shoot them dead (if I was lucky enough to have a gun .......I think that I would feel safer to know that their was one less savage beast walk the streets
Your question makes me think that the Neanderthal specie has not died out yet.

It is a social stigma. The only really bad thing to consider would be the chance of cross species disease. Consider simian AIDS!
