Very rare that he will open a car door. Only if he is trying to "prove" that he can be gentleman after an argument. Sometimes he will open the doors at a restaurant, but to be honest I am usually always at the door before him anyway. Been married for 2 years, 6 months.

Still? He does occasionally open a door to a restaurant for me, but car doors definetly not - he SAYS it's because I'm the driver (he refuses to drive me anywhere....) I just accept it and go on, although secretly, yes, it bothers me - but I don't see a lot of other men his age doing it, either. I've also noticed that it dies down a lot after marriage.
We've been together about 3 years, and married just shy of 1 year.

I have been with my mate for 24 years. This year marked our 21st wedding anniversary. We have 3 sons together. He still opens all of my doors. I felt so special the first time he did. As a young woman the romatic ideas of chivalry came to mind. Anyway, I never stand around waiting for him to do it but he inevitably does. He says that it is the one thing that a man can do for a woman no matter how independent she may be to show her that she is and always will be a "Lady". He says it is something that can be done by anyone in any station of life and it doesn't cost a thing.
He has taught by example. Our sons from the youngest to the oldest all open doors for ladies.
While the parents of our eldest son watched on as he opened the doors for their daughter on Prom Night they expressed how good they felt seeing their daughter being treated with such consideration.
Our sons do this as a matter of reflex. It isn't contrived or forced. It is something that they just "DO".

My husband never opened the car door for me. He told me straight out that he will not do it for years to come so therefore will not put on a act. He does open doors for me when we go shopping and when we come home and he still does that after 8 years of being together.

As for car doors It is a sign of respect to the other person, that you care for their safety that you are checking to make sure they buckle up, the door closes correctly, and that nothing is hanging out of the car that wold get dirty from road "splash".
If I arrive at a building door first, I open it for everyone. It is polite, provides a quick entry for every person (no shuffuling to see who get the door), and is just the best way to make entering or exiting a building more effecient.

Hubby and I have been together for 8 years now and he has always opened the car door for me, waits until I am seated and then closes the door.
When we have picked up either my mother or his, or any female, regardless of age, he does the same thing.
Chivalry is not dead.
