Ok ladies, enlighten me. I have a female friend who is pms-ing and whenever she does, she gets kind of out of it, mentally... she can't pay attention at all, her short term memory goes on vacation and she can't remember what she heard five minutes ago, or 2 weeks ago, she gets confused and disoriented easily, etc.

Does PMS affect other women the same way? Is this normal?

PMS is a surge of hormones in the womens body to make up for what will be lost for there period. Now the symptoms that you describe I have on a daily basis but not to that degree. However when I am PMS'ing, I am a *****. I have found that taking ginseng and ginko bilboa has helped both of these and my PMS symptons are not as bad and I am better able to concentrate. At least that is what my family says. My doctor told me that what I am experiencing is just getting old and I would be concerned but my mom, my grandma and my great grandma all has this but it was not life threatening or dangerous to us and none of us have developed altzheimers. There could be something else wrong that she may want to have checked but I have only heard the PMS affects your moods.

yes it is...its the hormonal imbalances that makes it.Probably the least understood aspect of menopause is its psychological dimension. the hormone estrogen and progesterone are known to affect our moods and to be related indirectly to our nervous systems.MENOPAUSE AND MEMORY LOSS
Forgetting where you put your keys a lot lately? Leaving that shopping list at home all of the time? Having trouble remembering names for all of those faces? Menopausal women often complain of fuzzy thinking, forgetfulness, and difficulty concentrating; some even wonder if this is the beginning of dementia. There is no need to worry; you are most likely not losing your mind! Short term memory loss is very common and probably has very little to do with menopause itself.
Memory is a very complex mechanism and is not completely understood even today. It’s pretty hard to imagine that you can fit all you need to know and more inside what is really a fairly small computer. But our brains are specially tuned to store, retain, and retrieve large amounts of information. Our brain knows what information to keep on hand and what information to forget, at least for the most part. Without memory, we would not be able to go about our daily business. Our memories work in three stages: registration, retention, and recall. When we make observations in our daily life, our brain registers what we see, hear, smell, taste, feel, and think. If we continually repeat or remember something that we observe, our brain keeps this information in our short-term memory.

I get a little flaky, but nothing like that.

I couldn't tell you if that's normal, or if she's just faking it and using PMS as an excuse. PMS symptoms usually range from cramping to b!tchiness to food cravings. I don't think I could classify your friend's symptoms as normal.
