I am doing some background on haiku in English, so am particularly interested in details of contemporary haiku writers writing in English

Not sure who the author is, but it is from cat haikus:

My brain: walnut-sized.
Yours: largest among primates.
Yet, who leaves for work?

there are some really great Ancient Chinese haikus . you can get them at any local library.
