There should be a command in the printer program to clean the cartridge(purge, something). It will run a test page, and that sometimes cleans it.
If its dried out inside, thats different and you will have to buy one......walmart is cheapest, and getting just a black one is cheapest of all.

If a qualified refiller told you that the cartridge is clogged, it's clogged and you won't likely have much success in unclogging it regardless of what you do. Even if you are successful at clearing the clog, in doing so, you may contaminate the ink left inside.

If it's been sitting unused in the printer for any great length of time, it's probably dried solid deep inside the printhead and possibly the sponge inside the cartridge.

Most refillers use a device to test the cartridges before they refill them, part of which involves sending a small current of electricity through the printhead to see if it will work once refilled.

They say it's clogged and can't be refilled? Then believe them and replace it with a new remanufactured cartridge.

They're cheaper than the OEM original cartridges and tend to work just as well if purchased from a reputable supplier.

Here's a link to a guide that may help you clear the clogged printhead and a link to a new cartridge.

Good Luck.

You can try to clean it yourself, use a damp paper towel and carefull wipe the bottom of the ink cartridge--you should see ink on the paper towel, keep wiping it until it seems to be flowing fairly well.

Then reinstall it in the printer and do a test--the first sheet or two might be kind of smeared, but after that it should start working again.

Otherwise, you might be stuck buying a new cartridge, they are expensive, and ink/bubble jet printers really suck them down.

Most HP printer drivers have a "clean cartridge" option. Try looking for that in the print options.
