I tried the "getdataback" software. But I am not satisfied with it. It retreives only the very recently deleted files. I want very old data which was deleted earlier. Hope there will be some mechanisms to take them. Is there anybody to help me?

I'll be very very Greatful to You.

Thank You.

You probably won't be able to get it back. When data is deleted from the hard drive it isn't acutally deleted. The first letter of the filename is removed from the names table and that tells the operating system that that space is now available for writing to. So long as that space isn't written to the file is still there for recovery. Once the space is written to the new file overwrites the old file that was there and the file is no longer recoverable. Also alot of people don't know that defragging a hard drive will wipe out any chance of getting data back.

When a file is deleted, the space that it occupied is marked as "free space". At some point, Windows will reuse that space to save a new file. Once that has happened, there is no way to retrieve the all file. If getdataback (which is a good retreival program) could not get the data back, then it has been overwritten by a new file. Sorry, but you are hosed...

No, there is not. When you 'delete' a file, you are freeing up the space. The data remains, there is just no longer an entry for it that you can see.

Since it is freed space, the operating system is free to overwrite it whenever it sees fit.

getdataback works fine on recently deleted files because the data has not yet been overwritten. The longer the space remains unalocated, the more likely it is to be overwritten.

Unless you were doing versioning backups, that data is gone.

Well, c'mon. If it's been a long time since the files were deleted, then they may have been overwritten by more recent data, in which case they have been either destroyed completely or severely corrupted. I use Norton Utilities Undelete. I expect you can find lots of free ones also, but rememeber, the more you use your computer the more likely you are overwriting the deleted files.

Good Luck

There are no true programs that can acquire this retrieval. You would most likely have to get Data recovery. But the big question is how much are you willing to spend to retrieve this data back? If it's not worth at least 300.00 - 1000.00 then it is most likely not worth it. You can go to websites like www.drivetronixs.com and they can provide free quotes but make sure it's that important cause you don't want to waste any ones time.

Before doing anything else I strongly suggest that you take the computer to a repair technician. They have access to sophisticated software that may be able to help you.
