SV host is a DLL utility used by XP I'm guessing ordinarily you will get occasional spikes in activity as DLL are used constantly. Hoverer you could have a Trojan or Virus , Try running an anti-spy programme and virus check just to be sure but whatever you do do not disable it yourself, it will destabilise your system. more info can be found on the Microsoft website or at the link below

i have 5 svchost.exe running on my task manager and cpu 100% but p.c runs fine, if ur p.c runs really slow then you might have avirus, not sure why i have 5???????????????????????????????????????
