In the school district where I work, we might file a truancy petition for students who have fewer absences than you do right now. They and their family would have to go to family court to explain the absences to a judge. In some cases, these court proceedings lead to the child being removed from the home and placed in foster care.

You might want to find out exactly what the policy is in your school district.

It's not the best in the world. I'd try to stay a little more consistant in yours school habits for the rest of the year. If you could keep it under 20 is what I'd recommend. Remember that every day you miss, is some piece of important information that you'll need to succeed.

Our school also takes students and their parents or legal gaurdians to court once they miss 10 days. They are fined between $250-$1000 and also have to serve jail time (sometimes). Many will get probabtion officers to do random checks to see if they are at school. If not, they have to go back to court.

Also- students do not get credit for the semester if they miss over 10 days in one semester.

And as for the earlier comment about it being like missing two weeks of work for vacation:

No, because work weeks are generally 5 days long, so it is more like 3 weeks. AND

Hello- summer vacation??????? There's your "vacation time" away from your"job" (of bieng a student).

Keep this attitude and you will be working minimum wage jobs (and getting fired from them for not being reliable about showing up for work!)

Check your school or school district's policy on absences. Is it per semester, quarter, yearly, cumulative? Have they notified you of consequences? Are you in college, or in compulsory attendance schools? Are you an emancipated minor? Can you ask your principal or counselor? They may be more able and qualified to answer this question. Plus, they can define what is "bad" for you. Good luck! :)

At my school we're allowed 5 per quarter. It really depends on your school's attendance policy, and why you were absent. Did you take a long vacation? Were you sick? Or did you just skip alot of days. Most schools have different policies for "excused" and "unexcused" absences.

I would say yes, what type of school? College, High School?....Most schools have a requirement of how many days you can miss before failing.
