Yes, we all can recognize him by name in a soccer uniform to some degree. Take him out of the uniform and 98.9% of the US is clueless to who he is.

They could have paid him 500 million dollars and he nor the sport would gain any more popularity than it has today. If he was to go back today, there would be no big loss. He could be Pele and get the same response.

Simply put. Americans just are not into soccer.

how does anyone not know who Beckham is?....He is a monster player and has been for years. he is worth every penny of that 250 mil. because he will elevate the play of the Galaxy players around him....and so what if he will be 37 when his contract expires.....Cafu for Brazil was 36 playing in the world cup and still contributed...so being 37 wont hurt him that much....

Yes, he's married to Posh and just signed a $250M, 5-year deal wth the Los Angeles Soccer club. It's been all over the news. That's big money for an over-the-hill footballer.

Your cousins?! Across what pond?!

Oh yeah duh I know who David Beckham is!!! Do I care? Yeah I care when it comes to football or our so-called soccer. He's a good player--great i'd say--so why not make a big deal out of it.

Now when it comes to his personal life, nah-not really.

I'm across the Pond, but in Colombia. We know who is he, but we dot think he is a good soccer player, we think he is just a marketing strategy. (wonder why he is not getting called for the teams this year?)

Isn't he a sports star? Soccer, right? Or am I just showing my American ignorance? Hey, is he the guy that the movie Bend it Like Beckham (starring Keira Knightley) is named for?
