Just make sure you have at least a week off work: you really don't want to be wearing anything more than shorts for a week. After that, it should be well on the way to healing. I took one day off & I reallllllllly regretted it !

Before you have this procedure done, you should know that there is a very real risk of loss of sensitivity as this study shows.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=pubmed&cmd=Retrieve&dopt=AbstractPlus&list_uids=16037710&query_hl=2&itool=pubmed_docsum
Masood S, Patel HR, Himpson RC, Palmer JH, Mufti GR, Sheriff MK.
Excerpts from the report:
OBJECTIVES: Currently no consensus exists about the role of the foreskin or the effect circumcision has on penile sensitivity and overall sexual satisfaction. Our study assesses the effect of circumcision on sexually active men and the relative impact this may have on informed consent prior to surgery.
Penile sensation improved after circumcision in 38% (p = 0.01) but got worse in 18%, with the remainder having no change. Overall satisfaction was 61%.
CONCLUSIONS: Penile sensitivity had variable outcomes after circumcision. The poor outcome of circumcision considered by overall satisfaction rates suggests that when we circumcise men, these outcome data should be discussed during the informed consent process. 2005 S. Karger AG, Basel
One out of five men circumcised suffers loss of sensitivity; one out of ten has painful erections or bleeding from sexual activity. All together, more than one out of three is not happy with the results; these are not very good odds. If your doctor can’t come up with any better solution, find another doctor.
I would point out that while this study shows that adult men should be warned of the possibility of sensitivity loss before they can give "informed consent" to circumcision, there is no way that a newborn boy can give his informed consent to an elective procedure that has greater than 1 in 5 chance of leaving him with an impaired sex-life.
His body. His choice.

Like several of the other guys who've answered, I also had it done as an adult (22). Best thing I've ever done (or just about!). Had a general anaesthetic, so no pain felt during the op, but afterwards a bit tender. The worst thing is when you get an erection and the stiches pull. But apart from that, no sweat. Don' worry. Think about all the benefits you'll experience once you've been cut!!

They will put you under either local or general. Then they will simply cut off the excess skin which will leave the head of your penis exposed. Really it's a very simple procedure and is nothing to worry about. Of course it's going to be painful after wards until it's healed. But during the operation you will feel nothing and it only take minutes not hours to perform.
In time you return to normal functioning. Remember it's only a piece of skin that is removed, not major surgery.

Obviously not a guy, so if any guys out there know better, do correct me, but from my very limited experience, guys tend to lose sensation there after a while if they've been snipped, as the tender skin beneath becomes permanently exposed, which can make it more difficult to orgasm. Not a problem with us girls of course (it's cleaner and it'll give us a chance to catch up!), but might be worth bearing in mind.
With regard to the operation itself, it's not complicated and is a common procedure. Check out the link below:

Good luck.

You're not the guy from the other day who want s to circumcise himself, are you?
They'll numb you and cut off your foreskin. plain and simple. The difference between you as a baby and you now is that nerves have propagated into that skin so it'll hurt some, but you'll live.
Also, the head is gonna be uncomfortably sensitive as it now rubs on everything. In time you'll get desensitized to it.

No worries, my ex had it done at 25. He said the pain was almost non-existent, he took some advil and laid around for a day or two. It didn't really slow him down much. Of course, no sex for a bit while it heals up.

I had it done as an adult, and it didn't hurt near as much as the doctor(s) had me believing. Be sure to talk to your doc about where you want the "scar" placed. A lot of urologists don't leave much of the "inner skin" and put the scar close to the head. If you want it to look like an infant circ, the scar needs to be lower. Most likely, you'll have stitches--the dissolving ones can, and will, leave "tunnels". But, if you get non-dissolving ones, you'll have to have them taken out, and that can hurt. You'll hurt ( a dull ache) for about two to three days, and you won't want to move around much for about a week. If you have a desk job, shouldn't be much of a problem. You'll enjoy the feel of the bare knob. If I had it to do all over, I would have gotten cut as a teen. I love it!!!!!
