Say I sent an email requesting bank details - what is it then possible to do with the returned information. In the west bank sort code and account numbers are only to pay money in - aren't they?

I'm not asking for information to break the law - just interested how information could be used. Are there corrupt banks that process dodgy requests or is it individuals? General information from a question my dad asked because he gets lots of spam saying he has won lotteries and things. I thought that it wasn't possible to use this information and that a card number was required.

Not at all. You can use an account with a routing number and send money anywhere you want or transfer it to another account. Be advised and close that account IMMEDIATELY!.

Always possible. My grandmother once told me. "If you have a nest full eggs everybody will try to get into it."
