I've learnt that the people who start off sentences with 'I don't mean to be rude but......." are actually going to be rude and mean it.

I've learnt that some people are very intolerant of others who make mistakes eg spelling, life in general.

I've learnt that when you ask, you're likely to get a lot more than you bargained for.

And I've learnt that for all the negatives on YA there is a helluva lot more positives which is why people keep using it.

That there are a lot of people out there who make snap judgements, who don't read questions properly and who take the moral high ground. particularly in the relationships category.

But on the other hand there are some genuine , caring, interesting and fun loving people too.

Oh and some weirdos , cranks and perverts

So I guess it just gives meaning to the cliche 'It takes all sorts of people to make the world'.

I have learnt one or two practical things in answer to practical question though.

I've learnt that many people are still very racist and homophobic and there is an extreme right wing minority on here that spoil it for the rest of us.

I've learnt that some people can't spell but i've also learnt that there are some seriously well educated people out there. What they are doing wasting their brains on this i'll never know.

The number of persons who have no clue as to how the government operates is far in excess of what I had earlier thought.

Neither Democrats or Republicans know what the party they support actually hopes to accomplish.

The terms liberal and conservative are so poorly defined in here any resemblance between what the dictionary definitions and opinions voiced in here are an accident.

The saying ignorance is bliss does not apply in Yahoo Answers and has been replaced by a little knowledge is dangerous.

Many do not realise that spell check is available.

I hope that answers your question.

There are often questions posted about computers and the problems that beset them. I tap into those answers and learn from what I see. I note that the sloppy teaching methods of the past 30 years has resulted in terrible spelling and awful English of the younger members of this forum. One can pick out the younger ones by the type of phrasing and the slang expressions used in the questions and answers.
In spite of all this I enjoy the challenge of answering questions and I am delighted to get a best answer.

The biggest thing I have learned is that you cannot assume that people know anything. The number of people without a basic understanding of pregancy and birth control is astonishing.

I have also been appalled by the number of people posting ridiculous answers with no knowledge of a subject.

I posted an answer to a computing question based on my PhD in computer science. I was very annoyed that the "Best Answer" was given to someone that claimed what was being asked couldnt be done!

I have learned that a miniature jersey cow will give between 2 and 4 gallons of milk per day.

I have also learned that there are an awful lot of school aged kids who apparently have little else to do with their time during the day than hang out on Yahoo Answers.

Mainly that there are far more differences between UK English and USA English than I had imagined, and that the USA is going through some sort of religious revival in which perfectly acceptable UK words are censored because they might have s e x u a l connotations.
I just read in the Guardian Weekly that a four year old child was excluded from school because he hugged his teacher.

This isn't the age of Aquarius, it's the age of Puritan revival.
