i do. It's emotional music. It didn't just start now, it started in the 80's with Rites of Spring and Embrace and a few others. It started by the bands becoming really emotional on stage. Now they slap on a term emo when they talk about breakups and stuff (which all music does but whatev) Ian MacKaye from Embrace helped launch it all, and he also started straight edge....yeah for Ian. Anyway the big record companies have gotten a hold of it and fed it to anyone who wanted to listen to it. And now there is a fashion trend. tight pants, long bangs spiky back on the hair. thick glasses, messenger bag, etc. I like emo music, simple as that. im not one of those people that are like "ahh stabby rip stab stab" its not all about cutting yourself either, huge misconception, that is called depression! peace out

Whenever I see someone who purposely tries to fit into the emo stereotype through dress/appearance, I can't help but think how hypocritical it is for them to say how non-conformist they are.

Also, when I see them at a concert text messaging on their cell phones, not having a good time, not drinking, there alone, and just taking up space, I always want to throw them over the balcony for making me realize that he/she is there and ruining my good times.

Anyways, I know what emo isn't. It isn't cool. It isn't great. It's not very uplifting, in the sense of the word. And it's not my preference of music, state of being, or anything I would associate with good things in this world.

That said, flame me and hate me for speaking the truth, only denying yourselves the fact.

Best of luck!

Emo was a musical style in the 80's that had a real meaning. Today, it has no meaning. Today, people will say that any song that isn't about p*ssy or drugs is emo.

I actual know that it's not just a term to describe people and the whole story about it being a form of music first... I'd say, yes, I know what it means.

I was at work a couple of months ago, talking about music, and I was saying how I like The killers, Fall Out Boy, Etc, and a buddy was like"Oh you like EMO"? I guess I do.

I thought EMO was a red furry puppet for children...that sold lots of goofy dolls that made kids laugh when it got tickled...

why? do you think you're an expert? nobody has been able to define it beyond the appearance of any so-called EMO bands. did you start the genre? props to you!
