Please help me - I've started to listen to 1980's cheese in the form of 'the power ballad'... I need to know if this is wrong? I'm usually a music snob!

Wrong? - Why would you think this is wrong? Be an individual and pursue what you enjoy. If you don't pursue what you enjoy because of what others consider right or wrong - boy that could be a very unfulfilling existence. Have fun and listen to what you enjoy by all means regardless of someone else opinion! - As with every decade of music - the 1980's set the stage for a lot of new forms of music to be able to go from in the shadows to mainstream. The 80's power ballad were great because they allowed guys to enjoy a love song with a hard sound without having to portray themselves as 'unmanly'. Anyway - pursue what you like - if power balleds are it - then enjoy!!

Im a very picky music snob, I hated when grunge took over my metal stations circa 1993. A good power ballad is, musically, a thing of beauty.

Enjoy the Power Ballads, while original in the 80's many have been revived (some several times) and they will continue to be revived for many years to come.
