Its 3 years at Uni doing a degree or i think u can also do dipHE in midwifery, there will be different entry requirements at different unis but i should think average would be A levels x3 for degree or equivalent and good G.C.S.Es or NVQ in care 2 or 3 for dipHE .some experience in health care would be an advantage too as i understand they get alot of applicants.
There are other routes if u are determined tho!
Look online you will find everything u need to know, Good luck

It relies upon on what state you're in...each state has diverse regulations concerning who can practice. There are 3 'diverse varieties' of midwife. CNM, (qualified Nurse Midwife) CPM (qualified professional Midwife) and Direct -get proper of entry to midwife. In about 0.5 the states in effortless words a CNM can legally practice. and that is a registered nurse...who has taken one extra 12 months in school in a midwifery software. A CPM doesnt could be a nurse, in simple terms pass a gruelling sequence of assessments and direct -get proper of entry to is an apprenticed-depending approach. Many midwives are relegated to operating in hospitals in effortless words, insurance is sky-extreme. each midwife who practices living house births legally must have a health practitioner as 'again-up' and medical doctors who will do this are difficult to discover. There are literally not sufficient midwives in this usa so good success!

I am a student midwife myself. Its great by the way!!! Really hard work but you will love it.
The course last for 3 years full time and consists of 50% at college/uni and 50% in placement (hospital, doctors surgery, clinic etc). Everyone enrolls on the Diploma course to begin with...then at the end of the 2nd year and if you have good grades...you can chose whether to continue with the Diploma course for the final year or move to Degree level on the final year. The Degree level being slighty harder work but its your own choice.
Generally you must be 17 years or older at the start of the course and must satisfy the minimum entry requires to the particular college/university you want to go to. Mainly 5 Standard Grades (1-3) or equivalent and passes in English and a Science subject. Priority will be given to those who have 2 higher passes (A-C) or 1 pass at GSE A level.
A health assesment will be carried out with your permission and you must also satisfy this before you are offered a place on the course. Before starting your placement you will be tested for different blood infections like Hepatitis HIV/AIDS etc and if your are offered a place you will be vaccined against Hepatitis B.
You are also required to tell them of any convicsions etc as you need to give permission for a Disclosure to be carried out to check your criminal background. You must also satisfy this before you are offered a place.
You will also attend an interveiw at your chosen college/university and also may be give a small exam on basic numerical and writing skills.
Good luck with it all and if you want any more advice just drop me an email!

You need to study at a school that offers midwiffery classes. I know there is one in FL and one in KY so I am sure there are others out there, do a search online and find one if it is what you really want to do.
