Scrape off as much as you can, with the back side of a table knife or a spoon.
Heat the rest of the wax with a blow dryer and gently rub the carpet with a clean cloth until there is no more wax.
Hope this helps.

Chip off and remove as much as possible first. Then take a terry towel and lay it down on the wax, then take an iron (on meduim heat) and place it on the towel, this will enable the wax to wick up into the towel. Be sure to keep inspecting the towel as you work, and continue moving to a fresh or clean area of the towel until the wax is gone. Dyes in candles can cause permenant stains, once wax is removed if a stain remains treat as a dye stain.

quickly throw an old dry, bath towel on the stain and absorb as much liquid as possible. Then, with a different towel blot the stain with a solution of cold water and a few drops of dish soap. Do not rub the carpet or you can damage the fibers. Continue blotting and absorbing until the stain is gone, or it fails to lighten further.

At this point you still have a shot on the fresh stain, but the odds are against you on the very old one.

Go to your local carpet cleaning supply store (check your local yellow pages) and get a heat activated cleaning compound such as Red Out or Stain Off. Follow the instructions and safety information on the bottle.

If one of these products doesn't solve the problem, contact an IICRC (Institute of Inspection Cleaning & Restoration) certified carpet cleaning firm. The Institutes web address is www.iicrc.org. They may have to dye the carpet to cover the stain.

Take a news paperr and Iron on a low setting over the Wax with news paper inbetween, and switch out the newspaper frequently. You can also buy wax remover for carpet at Places like Home Depot and WalMart. You can also Buy Gum remover, which is a freeze spray the you spray directly on the was and it freezes it which makes it easier to break apart and flick off instead of yank and pull at the carpet threads. Good luck, I'v been there too many times.

Scrape off as much as possibe, then heat with a hair dryer and BLOT, do NOT rub, with a paper towel, changing the paper towel often. Then, when the hair dryer doesnt do the trick anymore, use an iron over top of a paper towel, changing the towel oftern. Use a sheet of wax paper to protect the iron if you are concerned with damage to the iron.
