I would set a new series 30 years after Voyager returns, with the ship being stolen from a museum by a group of terrorists. What no-one knows is that these "terrorists" work for the Federation and have powers way above Starfleet, using illegal and prototype technology. First they kick Starfleet's butt during a mass battle (bear in mind, they're undercover)(300 ships crippled by one seriously amped Voyager), then a prototype new propulsion system malfunctions, kicking them out of this galaxy, into deep uncharted territorty. How's that sound?
quantum shift torpedoes - fire one off, it'll disappear into subspace, then reappear inside the enemy ship, using antimatter and warp plasma to blow the place up and incinerate any survivors
It's Voyager on crack...
ps It's recorded history that the first Enterprise captain was Christopher Pike, followed by Kirk. Plus if Enterprise was set before Kirk, why is the ship designed like Enterprise - D era ships?

Actually there is a lot of discussion around Paramount about the potential of a new Trek series, but the problem is the context and/or premise for the series. In the past the most successful series have been those that have dealt with a ship traveling and encountering various races etc. That's why a lot of people feel that DS9 did so poorly during its first few seasons. Then when Enterprise came out they dealt with things that were already know by Trekkers and took a lot of suspense out of the equation (actually turned more into a nostalgic trip more than a new series). Therefore the idea of having a series based on Starfleet Academy was scraped as well as having one based on Starfleet Medical or a medical ship traveling through space. Right now the focus is on the upcoming movie and whether it will be a success.
If it is successful it will tell the Paramount Execs that Star Trek is still a viable and profitable product (which is what they consider it) and they will "greenlight" another movie and possibly a new series.
Hope this sheds some light on your question.

How about some mini series rather than full series, you could have:
A Klingon Mini series
A Voyager Mini Series - the continuing adventures
A Deep Space Nine mini Series - The Return of Sisco
A Star Fleet Academy Mini Series
A Captain Sulu Mini Series - USS Excelsior adventures
A Captain Riker Mini Series - Next Gen Spin Off
or,
A New Cartoon Series Based on any of the Trek shows:
A Quark cartoon - based on Deep Space Nine
An all new Star Trek TOS cartoon - based before or after movies
A Next Gen Cartoon - continuing adventures
there are a few ideas to get you going

There are plans for a new Star Trek - the franchise has now been handed to JJ Abrams, who is planning to do a series based on Kirk and Spock at Starfleet Academy. Star Trek: The Wonder Years, basically.

1) Star Fleet Academy - You could have a stream of young actors coming in having their adventures and going off again.
2) Temporal Prime Directive - Inspired by the time travel stories in Voyager. You could have the crew time hopping sorting out time problems.
3) The Borg - How about a group of borg (no longer under the collective) on a Star Fleet ship that has been half destroyed. Half the crew Star Fleet & half the Borg !!!

There was a rumour that they were going to make a newer series 'spinning off' from Voyager!
If you remeber the episode where the crew were travelling through time to catch a rogue Star Fleet officer and were contravening the rules regarding time travel prime directive then you would be close.
It was to be set way into the future (29th Century) but a name was not decided and it appears, for the moment, that the idea has been put on hold!

There is plans for a movie, seen something saying they wanted shatner and nimoy.
No plans for a series at present I think they have decided the market for it has dried up in the meantime but would look into it in future.
I think a lot of people want something darker involving that secret agency (section 9??). I think this could work, going further into the future brings the temporal directive and to be honest I think a whole series involving temporal paradoxes would be rubbish.

I didn't like enterprise much, if at all, but Star trek tng, Voyager and Deep space nine were all in the same time period. I don't know what the next series should be about but star fleet academy was mentioned.

@ ConcernedCitizen: pondering they have forged a mushy Kirk for the imminent movie, i do not imagine the important Captain will be Pike. besides, as for the question at hand, there should be yet another sequence - yet on condition that they could get a first rate storyline that doesn't contain going again to earlier any of the previous sequence. i did not income from the concept at the same time as "organisation" did it, and that i'm not confident i visit savour it interior the hot movie. flow ahead - per chance per chance relaunch DS9 and end the tale (on account that, as far as "Trek" canon is in touch, Sisko remains floating round with the Prophets someplace)?

That is correct, insofar as Paramount is concerned.
I have plans for a new series though! A great one actually, at least with good actors. Just... no chance of ever getting a chance to run it by Paramount. (Sigh...)
