I would recommend either putting dryer sheets in the closet and/or the soap you get from hotels because it'll give your closet the "good" smell you're looking for as well as keep silverfish and moths out of your wools and other clothes. If you don't want to do that, you can also try cedar blocks. Same effect as the soap only with a more "woodsy" smell. Make sure it's red cedar, though, because white cedar actually smells bad in a house. Don't know why, just know. :)

I take the dryer sheets- usually the ones that I've used, and hang them on a hanger in the closet. Just poke them through the "hook" end of the hanger. I keep putting them in the closet each time I do laundry until I have enough scent!

Take everything out of your closet.
Heavily spray the entire empty closet with Febreze and allow to dry, see if the closet smells better. If not, repeat the spraying of the febreze. Once dry, wash your clothes.
Use Tide with Febreze and Downy with Febreze it Will make a difference.
Hope this helps.

Try a spray of Odo ban on the floor or right on your clothes [ if you don't have any delicate clothes ]. This stuff is great.
