well I don't have one since she passed away from cancer when my husband was 8 years old but I know for a fact that my mother does this to my husband talks too much so when I see a certain look on my husband's face I say hey we have to go or change the subject to give others a chance to talk or just join in on a conversation but the worst thing is when she tries to tell us that we need to do this or that, well I told my husband just say ok and we don't need to do what she says we have our own little family so just ignore what she suggests . hope this helped a little .

Hmmm!?.....I guess you were not paying very close attention to some of these little subtleties before you said, " I do." It is probably an isolated case....It really depends on the person.
I can only tell you that in my first marriage, my mother-in-law was a woman of ill-repute and just plain nasty all the way around. Talked to much, meddlesome, and trashy. (It made sense to me later when her daughter turned out the same way.)
In my second marriage, I was a bit more observant of the entire family I was marrying into and am pleased to report my wife and my mother-in-law are just plain saintly. In fact, the mother-in-law I have now is so prayerful, thoughtful, and just a good-hearted and nice person.

Your question made me remember something I recently read about how much women talk...here it is;
A husband read an article to his wife about how many words women use to communicate...30,000 to a man's 15,000. The wife replied, "The reason has to be because we have to repeat everything." The husband then turned to his wife and asked, "What?"

It depends on the mother in law. So, it's a "by person" basis.
