As long as you keep your profile private and dont accept "friend requests" that you dont know it should be fine...... the only people that can go on ur profile are people u know. Thats just me opinion.

MySpace isn't bad - but people sometimes use it to do bad things. People sometimes lie and pretend they are someone they are not. You didn't say how old you are - but MySpace was originally supposed to be for people 16 and over. Your parents are trying to protect you from being hurt. If they are not familiar with the internet they may be afraid of what they're hearing without understanding. They may understand the dangers fully but feel you are not ready yet. My teen-aged daughters use myspace but they know the rules about not accepting friends they don't know and keeping their profile private. And they know I WILL login and read what they and their friends are posting. I suggest you talk with your parents to understand their concerns. They know you best - before they let you use something like myspace they want to be comfortable that you are mature enough to use good judgement with people on-line so that people can't take advantage of you. Show them your maturity in other ways - in how you do your chores and homework, how you treat your brothers and sisters and them, how you behave towards/with your friends. Eventually they may feel you are ready.

how do u get raped online? or watched unless u have ur webcam on in which case ur letting ppl watch u.
lemme guess, ur parents aren't the most computer savvy people in the world, and this coming from an IT illiterate. u can get urself into a problem situation if ur not careful with personal info, but theres no way connecting is bad. unless u can't be trusted to keep private info private, u can probably explain things to ur parents and they'll most likely let u put it back up. however please realize, while u live under their roof, u gotta pretty much follow their rules.
just don't disconnect from the physical world too much. MySpace is addictive at times.

The website itself is not bad. What is bad is that there are a lot of people out there who prey on children or other young people. The fact that it is so easy to be anonymous makes it easy for these predators. Not just teens or kids, but too many people put too much information on their page that they think may be harmless and that information is used by those with harmful intentions. On my page, I put very little information yet someone was able to figure out what I do for a living. From that, he figured out who he knew at my employment and went on to dig into my life using that person. He also made "friends" with my boyfriend, who didn't realize this guy was NOT my friend. I never accepted the guy as a "friend" and I now keep my profile set to private. The problem is younger people are sometimes too trusting. If you stick strictly to people you already know, it might be ok, but I am all for parents monitoring your friend list and emails if they do let you have a profile. You could try facebook, which is a little more selective of its members.

The media has made Myspace out to be something evil. Every time it is mentioned on the news the media makes it sound like it is full of predators and nothing else because they focus on the small percentage of members who use it for nefarious purposes. Also, recently it has been experiencing a backlash that it is overrated.

Your parents are overreacting out of fear for your safety without regard that it is still anonymous unless you use your myspace connections to arrange real world meetings. Rather than trust that they raised you to be smarter than to go running off with some stranger, they would rather simply censor you. It is too bad.

Because you're under 18, you live in your parents' house and they make the rules. When you're 18 and move into your own place, you can re-activate your MySpace account at that time.

i think that its nice your parents care so much ..myspace can be a lot of fun but with all the people on it you an never be sure who you are talking to.

they just want you to be safe and there are all these reports that young people will meet dirty old men and killers.

dont blame them just give them a hug and tell them you love that they care.

Kids are not experienced or knowledgeable enough to make good decisions as to what info to put on sites like that. They tend to give too much info and post pictures and this leaves you vulnerable.

If you want to talk to people, use GoogleTalk.
