I've only just started to get into this programme but the dad is in some episodes and not in others, and as I can gather, he died-but what happened???

John Ritter as Paul Hennessy (2002-2003): A former sports writer, who now works from home as a "Lifestyle columnist". Described as being "the master of the double standard",a "Psycho-Dad" as well a hypocrite who often embarrasses his children. John Ritter died very suddenly in 2003 from a heart ailment, however his character Paul supposedly collapsed at the store. Hope this helps.

John Ritter died into the second season of the show. He had a heart attack. On the show they had him going to the grocery store for milk and he had a heart attack in the store and died.

John Ritter played the father and he past away in real life during the season a couple of years ago. It had something to do with his heart.

John Ritter died of heart attack in real life so they wrote him out of the show...I believe on the program he was killed in accident

John Ritter died very suddenly and unexpectedly after suffering from aortic dissection, an unrecognized and undetected flaw in his heart. He was 54. It was very sad. I remember him from Three's Company and some of us grew up watching that show.

He had a type of tear in one of his main arteries and died of internal bleeding.
