How overweight?
I am REALLY overweight and I have 5 children. My latest pregnancy was really complicated due to my diabetes. I ended up having a c-section and afterwards (about a week later) the incision site ruptured and continously drained fluid. It was a nightmare!
However, the only other trouble I had while being pregnant was during my second to last. I developed gestational diabetes and had to start insulin. But no other complications resulted because of my weight.
I really do believe that it depends upon the individual. You may be overweight, but quite healthy and if there is no cause for a c-section, then your pregnancy and delivery could quite frankly be a breeze.
Best wishes!

I too was overweight when I got pregnant, however fortunatly I had no complications, I think it depends on how much overweight you are if it is not significant as mine was not then I don't think you have to much to worry about. I have a friend however that was approx. 80 lbs overweight and had high blood pressure and had to be induced early because of the strain on both her and the unborn child, both are okay. I actually had three pregnancies all of them I was overweight and had three healthy babies that are no longer babies they are now, 23,19 & 17. Follow up on all your Dr. visits and make sure you take care of yourself, Good Luck to you and the baby.

Depends on how overweight you mean. Obesity and pregnancy can mean an increased risk of gestational diabetes, increased stress on your heart, back and stomach muscles, increased likelihood that your baby will have a weight problem...
It's also harder to lose "baby weight" after pregnancy if you gain more than the recommended weight. You'll want to talk to your doctor and discuss ways to manage weight during pregnancy: diet, nutrition, exercise.

I am overweight and I delivered a healthy baby girl(7lbs 14oz, 19in). My doctor just told me that since I was overweight I was only expected to gain about 20lbs, actually I only gained about 10, in the end I lost weight(that was an advantage).

If you are overweight, you may be at a greater risk of developing gestational diabetes. If this occurs, it can be managed through insulin injections and blood glucose monitoring. If left unchecked, however, the risks to both parent and child are significant. The condition can result in miscarriage and early infant death. In addition, the child may be much larger (and this result in a more complicated/riskier delivery.)

Are you simply a little overweight, or obese?
Obese women tend to have more birth-related complications than women of average weight, such as an increased risk of developing certain illnesses such as gestational diabetes, giving birth prematurely, having Cesarean (c-section) deliveries, hypertension, etc.
Also, the baby can also suffer from certain birth and nutritional defects.

You are allowed to gain less weight than someone of average weight and you might have bigger babies.
