How Bluetooth Technology Works

Bluetooth wireless technology is a short-range communications system intended to replace the cables connecting portable and/or fixed electronic devices. The key features of Bluetooth wireless technology are robustness, low power, and low cost. Many features of the core specification are optional, allowing product differentiation.

The Bluetooth core system consists of an RF transceiver, baseband, and protocol stack. The system offers services that enable the connection of devices and the exchange of a variety of data classes between these devices.

Bluetooth is a wireless system that has replaced the cord that connects one item to another. Example: You are using an i-pod, it has wired headphones. New cell phones and other newer electronics, are offering "wireless" devices. Don't be afraid! The pairing of the wireless devices is easy. Almost all new phones have an area under the "tools" area that has either: connectivity, bluetooth or something that alerts you that your phone has bluetooth ability. The pairing password is always 0000. Turn on the bluetooth on your phone, hold and press your power on the headset device, pair the two devices, put in your password (0000) and make some calls...or listen to music...or play on the X-Box or PS3...

It is purely a wireless protocol and your phone has a bluetooth transciever running at a very high frequency. Because of the high frequency, the signal quality is good, but because it runs with such a low poor consumption, distance is poor.
You can send data over a bluetooth wireless connection. Just like you can over WiFi. It's most popular for phone wireless headsets and basic file transfer
