Look in Windows Device Manager for your sound device if it's on the motherboard. If it says it's a Realtek AC'97 (Lots of companies used them between 2003 and possibly now), you can go to realtekusa.com to get the driver. My HP Pavillion desktop has one, and sometimes damaged headers on the headphone jack can cause the whole sound system to stop working.

i'm particular that it is the cooling fan, you would possibly want to of had something get sucked into it, i'm getting this each and each and every of the time, a customer will convey is a operating laptop or computer for restoration and that i will open it up and often fined a huge volume of lint, or that slightly of plastic has damaged on the fan, and it making the noise, or that the fan would nicely be going out, because it is going away at the same time as it hits the intense speed initiate up. I commonly remind shoppers that they favor to blow out the fan, a lifeless ringer for on a operating laptop or computer pc, I had one are available complete of cat hair and lint, you could tell had gotten so warm that it singed the hair/lint, and can want to of all started a hearth. attempt with it powered down, use a can of air duster, putting the tube next to the output fins on the decrease back and blow into the fan, and observe if that forestalls the noise. regrettably the purely thanks to get rid of the lint and debris is to open the case and open the cage around the fan, and get rid of the fan, and observe what's in there, i'd not propose attempting this on your own till you recognize what your doing. JR a side note about this: there turned right into a operating laptop or computer that burnt down a house some months decrease back, it all started from a operating laptop or computer left operating on a settee and the air intake changed into plugged and it burst into flames and took the homestead with it, in case you go away your computer operating and laying on something gentle that could want to dam the air ports, I propose flipping it over so the air intake is on-top, or not leaving it like that, continually have it on an outstanding floor. and not in any respect lay it on a mattress or blanket, and walk off questioning it will be ok, you may not have something to come back decrease back too. Open up the machine and see if the sound card is integrated into the motherboard, or if it is on a card.
If it is on a card, just look up the numbers on it, and you should be able to find a driver.
If it is on the motherboard, you can try to find the chip on the board, or you can look up the numbers on the board itself.
If it is on the motherboard, and you can't figure it out, then just go buy a new sound card and install it, most onboard sound is cheesy anyway.

1) Restart it.
2) If that doesn't work, you need to update or possibly re-install your sound driver
