Babylonia was a great empire at one time. Its capital city was Babylon. At the time, it was the center of civilization. Do the names Hammurabi and Nebuchadnezzar ring a bell? Babylon is mention repeatedly (and historically) in the Old Testament of the Bible. Babylon is also mentioned in the New Testament ( in Revelations) but only as a metaphor. Have you seen the pictures of the Ishtar Gate (the big blue gate) that Saddam Hussein had restored? It was one of the gates to the city of Babylon. If I recall correctly, Alexander the Great died in Babylon.

Yes it did, in modern day Iraq, (Mesopotamia). One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient world was built there: the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, which were built by an Assyrian king for his wife whom missed her homeland.
