I had a bit of a quibble today with another shopper at my supermarket. Im 21 weeks pregnant and suffering badly with my back, to the point i can't stand up for longer than an hour. I am also clearly pregnant, my bump is huge. Anyway I decided to park in a parents space, figuring I was pregnant so I am a parent so have as much right to park there as anyone else with children. Another shopper took issue with this and was very abusive. i regused to move, and she complained to the supermarket. Now, in your opinion, who was in the right? Do u think i have as much right to park in these spaces as somebody with their kids already born??

I think you have every right! I know being on Bed Rest I have to use those electic Carts... People complain becuase I should be up walking around. And I am Healthy... well if they would like my baby to fall out I will walk for them... Not! I think they should make PG parking or give us Temp. Handi Cap stickers

Hi there! Some people are just pure ignorant. There is a supermarket I go to that says expectant or with kids. Of course you have every right to park there. Even more so than her. I would have too! I'm assuming she can clearly walk on her own. I can't believe someone had nothing better to do than go complain to a manager about a pregnant lady and where she parks. My time is much more valuable to be than that. Even though it irritates me when people park in the handicapped spots, when they clearly shouldn't be, I wouldn't go report them. The sad thing is if you were being attacked or harassed I bet the same woman wouldn't have done anything. Most people start stuff when things don't matter but when it really counts they are silent. Don't stress over idiots like this, just worry about you and your baby. Chances are you will come across another inconsiderate person again really soon. Congrats and good luck!! I do agree those spots should be for pregnant women, they do need special attention and courtesies.

Those spaces are for " Expecting Mothers and new mothers" . The sign states that!!! Don't feel anything other then you have all the right in the world to park there!
If spots were to designated for people with children do you know how many people would be parked in those spots. Can you look at someone and tell if they have children? I cant unless they have them with them and carrying them.
The spots should only be for Expecting and new mothers! That person was probably just P#@!ed off because they had to walk a little farther to get to the store.

I think that woman had anger issues and hates herself.
Personally, I think they should get rid of these spots because they cause so many more problems than curtesey. My lightest born child was 8lbs2oz and my heaviest 10lbs5oz. I lived through EACH right to the end without a 'special' parking spot. Now that my 4 year old doesn't want to be in a stroller- I feel wierd about parking in the spots for "parents with strollers" even though I have a child young enough for one.
My son is 4, but he exceeds the height allowed for the mall playland, so I feel wierd about him going in there, even though some parents drop off their 11 year olds (against the law) in there and go shopping.
You're gonna find more ignorant people in this world now that you're going to become a parent.

Iam pregnant and have parked in those spots since i was showing. The signs in our area clearly read "with children" and since iam with child, I figured it counts. I've never had anyone get pissy with me about it.
The nice thing about having small children in a parking lot is that there are always shopping carts floating around, you can stick the baby in the cart and push it. However, you cannot remove your uterus and push it in a cart.
I would never get pissy with a pregnant mom for parking in the women with children spot at the store. Often pregnancy feels worse than the soreness of hauling kids around.
I think the only time I would relent and not park in the spot once i was already there, is if another very pregnant mom with other small children asked for it.
Or i dont park in them if there is a comparable spot a little father from the door. The walk never killed me. But still.

most of the parent spots in our area actually say Expecting and Early Parent Parking.. which means PREGNANT and Mothers/Fathers of SMALL CHILDREN- u know the babies that have to be lugged around in the darn car seat ... what a hassle to park way out and have to carry that thing! or... Squirmy two year olds that Wont hold ur hand... BUT YES u being PREGNANT give you the right to park there.. I would have just walked off and ignored this woman... she could just circle till u got out or complain to the store for more spaces... ur pregnant... Dont bother with avoidable situations.. u have enough things to think about... Next time just give her the "talk to the hand" and shop away! Congrats and God Bless in ur Pregnancy

Yes, I think that you definately were right ~ you are in pain and her only pains were the ones standing next to her. Don't get me wrong I have 4 kids and I often tell my husband that I should be able to park in the handicapped spaces because having 4 kids 2 of them are under the age of 2 is a handicap in itself :). I only wish more stores would put those parking spots in. Good luck and I hope you feel better!!!

I think you have more of a right! I have seen a lot of places now with spots for pregnant or new moms. I have no children, but I just image what it would be like to walk around with a bowling ball in my stomach! I'm sure that is a lot more of a chore then trying to get all your kids in. You have every right to that stop in my opinion and I hope they supermarket saw your side.

I thought those parking places were made for expecting moms too! I would have parked there too if I was in your situation! The other shopper must be soo unhappy with their life that they have to make a dent in yours! Just ignore the unhappy shopper and show off that bump...congradulations!!!

Those spaces are for people with children AND people who are expecting. Some people who have kids can be so rude like that. You were totally in the right there. I would not haved moved either. Good for you for standing your ground!
