Technically, no. If your income is below the standard deduct amount for your filing status + your personal exemption, then you don't need to file.

If you had worked and earned less than that amount, you would want to file and get back the withholding. But that doesn't look to apply to you in the current year.

You can always look at the 1040 instructions under Who Needs to File. They are available online at www.irs.gov

If you did not work and had no other income that is taxable then you do not have to file a return as you have nothing to file on. Have a good day.

Always file, regardless of whether you earned income, paid taxes or owe any. Just put zeros in your return form and put unemployed as your occupation.

Yes, unfortunately. You may have gotten interest income, or unemployment income. Or even with no income, you still have to file.

No. The only way you can file income taxes is if you receive a W2. And if you did not work, then you will not be receiving a W2.

If you don't file you will receive an assessment, then you will panic. So best to file to get the govt off your back.
