Yes because if you use US$ then they will take it at a higher exchange rate than normal.

I find that I get a better deal with Jamaican dollars if I "live" like a Jamaican. By that I mean riding the bus instead of taking shuttles and taxis, eating at places not in tourist traps, etc. Otherwise if a price is offered in US dollars and you only have JA dollars, the merchant will still do the math to get the same amount regardless of the exchange rate.
If you are buying items from vendors on the beach, I notice they are pretty savy on getting the exchange rate correct no mater what you are paying in. So it really doesnt matter until you start to travel and patron areas that only price in JA dollars.
You should also first figure out how much money you are losing when you exchange your money at the cambio or airport, because it may not be worth it in the long run.

As best as I could tell there are no good deals in Jamaica. Everything is priced as high or higher than in the U. S. This seemed to be true for all tourists. But Mexico was also the same way. I found it easier for me to use American money simply because of familiarity with it. Jamaicans can go either way but are required by law to give change back in Jamaican dollars.

You can only get a better deal anywhere is if you ask a local to book for you, either you can pay or the local you will still get the local rate. payment can be made in either currency.

Most of the items on sale for tourists are quoted in US. Keep some local change if you decide venture outside your resort area for convenience sake.
Lived in a resort area all my life.

It depends on the place. If the price is quoted in US dollars then it's better to pay in USD, if in JMD then petter pay in JMD. Every place have their own exchange rates. However JMD places are usually cheaper because they are not only tourist oriented.

Yes you do. Using foreign currency screams that you are a tourist with lots of money to spend.
