Theodore (Teddy) was the godfather and favorite uncle (her father's brother) of Eleanor Roosevelt, whom he gave away in marriage to their 5th cousin, once removed Franklin D. Roosevelt on March 17, 1905.

They were fourth cousins (once removed). Franklin married Teddy's neice, Eleanor, who was Franklin's fifth cousin.
