American society... one of the worst things to ever happen. We have so many rules about the way people need to act and look like that it's just stupid now. People aren't allowed to act and look like they want to anymore b/c they're afraid of the way American society will judge them. When you think about it, according to society's rules, the way people can live their lives is extremely limited compared to the way they could be living it. The sad part is that most people do go through their lives "living the American dream" - finishing high school, going to college, getting a high-paying job, having a nice house, raising a family, retiring, and dying. This is the way I've seen most Americans live, and it's disgusting. Our creativity has been completely shot by the way society wants everyone to live.

What I'm looking for here is your opinion on the situation. Do you think American society has killed peoples' creativity? Please back up your answer with good reasoning. Any opinion is liked

Dude, there isn't any rule saying you have to dress this way or that way. There isn't any rules saying you must marry, have kids, get a job, buy a house, etc... You can do what ever you damned well want here if you put your mind to it. Also, you wrongly seem to feel that this is a US only problem, it isn't and is happening all over the world, In fact, the US has a lot less rules then many European countries. I think your talking about the media and the gate keepers - those people who decide what's cool and what's not in any given year. Well, you know what, if you want to, you can tune in and drop out. Nobody's stopping you and a lot of people do. It also sounds like you don't like the routine or the thought of growing up like everyone else. You don't have to fit the mode or stereo type. Whose stopping you from going to college, and working in a National Park as a river guide? The answer is YOU, not society. Good luck to you in your search for answers.

Well, your creativity doesn't have to be stuck out for everyone to see either. You can fit in (all societies require this to some extent, after all, humans are tribal creatures) and still be a creative person. I honestly think people who say their creativity has been killed have sold out and then aren't happy with the results.

It's not just America. It's most secular society. I live in England and the 'American dream' you describe is here too and in most European countries. It's called capitalism and I'm afraid it's here to stay.
