During the 1960's America had a cultural revolution of sorts. There was political radicalism abounding under different labels. Some women, often but not exclusively lesbians, thought that their causes needed a radical effort too. Abortion and the equal rights amendment were the two biggest causes they fought for. The right of a woman to be her own person, not needed a man, that was the center of feminism.

Your question as stated suggests that you believe all women are feminists, I beg to differ.
Not all women are and those who are should not be labled as bad or radical. Feminism is simply the belief that woman have value and that women should be allowed equal access to rights, benefits, achievements...etc.
Many men can be called femists as well!
