2/5-y / y-2
Unclear what you have here: Right now it reads:
(2/5) -(y/y) -2
= 2/5 -1 -2
= .4 - 3
= -2.6
But perhaps you mean:
(2/5 - y)/(y-2) If so, then
=(.4-y)/(y-2) and that's as far as you can go.
On the other hand you could mean
[(2/5-y)/y] -2 in which case we have:
(.4-y)/y -2
=(.4-y)/y - 2y/y
= (.4 -y -2y)/y
=(.4-3y)/y
But in no case do I see how to use your instructions to subtract and multiply. It would be helpful if you always presented your problem in a clear and ambiguous way.

Ok guys since there are no brackets you have to do order of operations, that is multiply and divide come first, then addition and subtraction come second. You have 2/5-y/y-2. So...

2/5 = .4
-y/y = -1

So now we have....

.4 - 1 - 2 ta da!!!!

now you have -2.6.....

Isnt that cool!!!

2-5y/5 by y-2/1
2-5y=5y-10[since a/b divided by c/d aXd ,cXb where axb,cxd are equal]
12=10y
y=12/10=6/5
