Although it comes down to do you have the resources to investigate?
The complaint could just be someone anoyed and nasty enough to slander someone. On the other hand there may be valid fact burried amongst the rubble.

if you investigate the complaint and establish the facts or lack of them at least you are seen to be upholding fair and natural justice
if you ignore it you are seen to be trampling on fair and natural justice

If I had the resources to investigate, I would.

Yes and it can also be dismissed for lack of collaborating or substanting evidence
