I have been answering all of your questions since I have been in the situation you are in.

I would go woth natural, C-section is too complicated and takes a while to heal with vaginal you are in and out with no pain afterwads (well mostly no pain) soreness yes but its easier and not to mention it feels better rather than having to wait the 4-6 weeks to be able to cough, laugh pee without pain.

I have done 3 vaginal births 1 with an epidoral and 2 fully natural and I prefer all the way natural with no pain meds, it hurts like hell to be honest but theres nothing like getting up and walking out of there with your baby hours later :)

Good luck sweety Please keep me updated on the DS and if you ever need anyone to talk to dont hesitate to bother

My first baby was vaginal. The labor sucked, but the recovery was quick. I was up and walking around within hours. I was soar and tender (since I ended up with a couple of stiches) but I was back to myself in less then a week.

My second (twins) was a planned c-section. One of the babies was breech and for the safety of the babies, they took them early. Delievery was quick and painless but the recovery sucked.

For the 1st day I was not permitted out of bed because of the epidural. Then, when I returned home I was told not to pick up my 20 month old or walk the steps for a week. Not an easy thing to do as a stay-at-home mom. I'm also left with a long (although thin) scar and no feeling around it.

If I had a choice, I would choose vaginal all the way. Why have major surgery if you don't need to?

Most women don't have this choice. Most doctors I know will only perform a C Section in emergency situations or in special circumstances. I can tell you that C Sections are harder on you and your recovery time will be doubled possibly tripled. Keeping in mind you will have a newborn to take care of. Which is demanding enough. You will also have a visible scar. You will be sedated so you won't have the pain, but you can get epidurals as well with vaginal and not feel any pain either. I did.

A c-section is considered "major abdominal" surgery and should only be performed if necessary! You feel no pain during the surgery but the healing time is 2 weeks or longer! It hurts once your pain medication wears off!

Vaginal hurts more in the beginning...and you may hurt when you sit for a few days due to hemorrhoids and stitches down there! But your healing time is usually no longer than a few days!

I've had both vaginal and c-section! I had such a hard time having my son vaginally that they had to use a vaccuum on his head to get him out! My c-section with my daughter was better for me.

And, most doctors will not give you a choice of a vaginal birth or c-section unless you already had a c-section in the past!

Vaginal is better. Quite honestly I do not think they should have elective C-Sections. Nor should a doctor schedule one just so they know when they have to deliver babies.

My sister-in-law is planning a C-Section, her only reason is because she doesn't want to go through labor.

C-Section is a surgery - It'll take more time to recover from and you'll have a permanent scar. Vaginal is natural - our bodies were designed for giving birth this way.

A C-Section should be used only in emergencies and such - not just for a way to get out of having to go through labor. You forget the pain of labor and delivery - but you'll have a constant reminder and continue to hurt after a c-section.

I've had two c-sections (first was emergency after an all-day, med-free labor and a couple hours of pushing with baby in wrong position) and I'm hoping to find an OB willing to allow me to have a VBA2C (vaginal birth after 2 cesareans) with our next baby. My 2nd c-section didn't go well and I believe that I will be up and around much more quickly with a vaginal delivery. Remember, for a while after you've had a c-section it will likely be difficult to do many things. Even rolling over in bed, walk around with a carseat in your hands, nursing a baby, etc. has proven to be difficult for some after this surgery. A c-section should be your VERY last resort because there definitely are risks with any major surgery. I'm actually appauled that some OBs suggest them to moms when there's no reason to absolutely have one. But in an emergency, they can be life-saving.

Nevertheless, I have to say that I don't completely agree with everything that others said on here because everyone is different and you never know how your body will respond to a c-section. For example, my c-section scar after TWO c-sections is, for most intents and purposes, invisible. At my last doctor appointment, they couldn't find it and had to really look before seeing where I had been cut. In addition, not all vaginal deliveries heal faster than c-sections--it just depends on the person. I've had several friends who had vaginal deliveries who they (and even doctors) believe they should have had a c-section due to the damage they had to the vaginal area (tearing both forward through the cliterus and backward through the rectum). One just had reconstructive surgery down there and another is about to have reconstructive surgery because even though she delivered last January, she still hasn't healed a year later. But these are EXTREME situations that are not likely to be reproduced in your situation. Perennial massage during labor would have likely helped them not have these tears, but everything is 20/20 in hindsight.

I encourage you to plan on a natural delivery. Read, read, read about ways to prepare for labor and to be successful. I've had friends not have a single tear (one who swears by Evening Primrose that she took every night the last couple weeks of her pregnancy) and friends who delivered right at home who hopped right up after the delivery and took a shower. Stay strong and stay positive. (sorry this is SO long) :)

I never had a C-section, I had my son vaginally. It was an experience that i feel every women should have! It's hard to explain but think about it MEN can't ever do this! Some women no matter how hard they try will never, and i think it's just amazing! Vaginal is the way to go, even if you only do it once.

If you have a choice, I'd pick the one with less scarring and a quicker recovery (vaginal). If you opt for C-section, you will have to contend with the "mommy pooch" because they'll sever the muscles in your abdomen. If I remember right, there are about 15 layers of muscle, fat, membrane and whatnot to go through to get to Baby. It will take longer to get rid of that pooch because muscles take a long time to heal. Also, C-section is a surgical procedure, with all of the attendant risk of surgery involved. You'll want to discuss this with your doctor to make sure you understand what's involved.

Vaginal delivery is painful, yes, but those muscles are prepared for the required stress and recover more quickly.

Congratulations, and good luck--

My first was a c-section. The rest were v-bacs. If I had to choose (and I did), Vaginal all the way. C-sections have a longer recovery. I felt back to normal so much faster with the vaginal births.

Vaginal births are better for the baby! They need the pressure of going through the birth canal as it helps kick start their nervous system. Plus c-section should only be a last resort
