Republicans are Elephants..They stand firm and go with what works, if it hurts or not...Dems are Donkeys, bucking the system, looking for other ways...a little bit of both is a good thing, so try to look at both sides...don't be an elephant or a donkey just cause someone else is.

Lets see, originally the parties were Whigs (rep.) and Federalists (dem.). Whigs were in favor of loose interpretation of the constitution, whilst the feds were in favor of a strict interpretation of the constitution. Sorry to say though, from what I've seen over the last 50'ish years, they just flip flop on issues and don't have much difference except they don't agree :)

Democrats, open minded, humanitarian, passive. The Donkey, precautious, often giving it the reputation of being stubborn.
Republicans, closed minded, utilitarian, agressive. The Elephant, goes with the rhythm, rarely changes course.
If I were you, I'd teach him to be neither, or a little of both. The more moderate you are, the better.

really dont know how to explain it to an 11 yr old ...
Democrats are usually more openminded and more of the pansy type (no offense) .. more women vote Dem.
Republicans are more of the closed minded its been this way forever kind of people ... they are also the ones who like to start wars for greed or stupid reasons ... more Southern Men vote this way
