I think it is outrageous how our society can spend $250 million for a soccer player but can't put the money to better use. Maybe help out an undernourished country.

Look what Pele did for the NASL!

What's the NASL? It's the North American Soccer League!

What was that, you ask?

Well, people will be saying the same thing in a few years about MSL...

What Pele did for NASL, Beckham will do for MSL.

Americans do not have the complete understanding of Soccer..
They want points - points - points!!!!

Unless they reduce the players to 5 on each side, raise the goal to ten feet high, 20 feet wide, soccer will never be a major TV sport in the US. And that's really the important factor of any sport in the US; TV.

Beckham may have the power to draw people into stadiums, but I doubt a single redneck in the South, a Jew in New York, a non-English speaking Mexican in LA, or a staright-up gangsta wanna-be in Detroit will flip their channel to watch him bend a soccer ball around a wall of defenders.

Unless, of course, Posh Spice is out there with him, buck nude.

Heck, they should have given her $25 million to be out on the field with him.

Well it's not actually $250, it's up to that in endorsments. His actual contract is 5 year $50 mil., for a superstar like Beckham I think that's worth it.

For England-He performed with delight which no longer many these days can say. in view that ninety 8 he has lead with tips from occasion and from 01-06 captained very properly. a function sort-astounding function sort on the pitch he maintains to be out of concern and stale it does no longer something debatable with reguards to soccer. He has opened soccer academies and cares surely approximately soccer-no longer purely the wages and on the right. once you examine him to scum like Wayne Rooney and Joey Barton and funds-grabbers like Lampard he's a huge function sort- ok so Beckham earns an excellent sort of money yet he has earned it for his commercial attraction and each thing else-What do Lampard and Adebayor and so on do to justify their salary demands? As a individual, He is familiar with media interest is inevitable and does not combat it-What may well be the component? He says and does alot yet how plenty does he surely provide away? He keeps low-key yet on a similar time makes particular he's observed(If it relatively is clever) i'm no longer one among those Beckham obsessers or something yet I do recognized that he's a huge function sort and ambassador for international soccer and English lifestyle.

The only reason LA wanted him was to fill the stands.

People will buy tickets to see David Beckham but once they realize soccer is boring to watch, they will stop showing up and the $250 million will be wasted.

He should have stayed in Europe. At least that way he won't get caught up in the Hollywood lifestyle and probably ruin his career.

It seems like a lot but his name alone is going to be a big draw for MLS. Look at what Wayne Gretzky did for hockey in Southern California when he joined the Kings! Even those who knew nothing about hockey knew who Wayne Gretzky was and decided to see what the fuss was all about. The same goes for David Beckham. People know his name and his face and will want to see what he's all about. In Europe, he was being viewed as "over-the-hill", wasn't he? Here, he gets a fresh start. I hope he does well.

I hope it brings much attention to the sport. The sport is more exciting than baseball and American football. It has all to do with what the American media and marketing companies and how can they get Americans excited about soccer. I don't know if this generation of North Americans will every appreciate the game of soccer no matter which superstar they have, maybe the next ones will.

hes obviously doing it for the money. no soccer player in their right mind would go move to an MLS club but hes got no choice cause nobody in europe wants him anymore. oh well, hell save up a nice big pile of money in the next coupla years, just enough to retire on at the end of his career...
