It depends entirely on your values. I believe some of what Yoda says is magnificient. When he talks about pulling the ship out of the water and Luke says that it's too big, Yoda tells him that the size of the ship isn't the issue. His lack of belief in himself holds him back. What a lesson!

Here's the thing with role models - they have to reflect what we want to teach our kids.

Unfortunately, too many role models today are focused on the duality of "we are good and they are bad" instead of how we're actually all about the same.

For that reason, the role models I've chosen for my kids are The Dalai Lama, Jesus, and Thich Nhat Hanh. We also talk about great inventers and artists like Benjamin Franklin and Da Vinci.

The element that runs through the role models we've chosen include consistency, bravery, creativity, compassion and wisdom because those are the values we'd like our kids to leave home with.

I wouldn't say yoda because in the end he chickened out fighting and went into hiding. Is it a good example to tell your kids when great evil comes about that affects all ways of life that you should run and hide?

I do not know you I would find as better example. Maybe Chewbacca (if you are staying in the Star Wars genre)? Loyal and friendship to the end.

He is logical but cynical at the same time. I would say yes if that is how you want your child to be.

I think the last few Nobel Peace Prize winners would be good role models, especially Kenyan environmentalist and human rights campaigner Wangari Maathai.

absolutely. He has high morals, and although he can be violent at times, he's still awesome. I know when I was a child he was one of my role models just because of his honesty.
