My guess would be ammonia burn, but you didn't provide enough info for me to certain.
What size tank are they in? How many silver dollars do you have? Do they have any tankmates?
Silver dollars are pretty big and a small school should be in a tank no smaller than 60 gallons.
Have you tested for ammonia and nitrites? If not, do, and see what the values are. They should both be at 0; if they aren't, you need to do more frequent water changes.

Various stress can also sometimes cause black fins on fish, and stress is usually caused by poor water conditions. Make sure to keep the water crystal clear - do weekly 30% water changes and make sure your filter is adequate.

You can introduce smaller ones, yup, just not small enough to be eaten by the big ones, and you should introduce two or three small ones at the same time, not just one, as it might get picked on.

ok, what do you want help with. Scoop out the useless fish. replace the water, keep the filter out plugged in. Plecostomus are hardy fish, so that you need to be tremendous there. i imagine the fish died becuase the filter out wasn't on. see you later because the filter out is left on the ammonia tiers could stay at a secure factor.

Your silver dollar fish is mourning for its own loss. You know how it is with humans, they mourn for their own death before they die, silver dollar fish do it afterwards. That's how it is with fish and human. They tend to change a lot when they die.
