i suggest you plan on going to the jury selection, listen to the judge explain the process, and see where it leads. if it looks like you will be selected and you will be held for more than two days, explain your situation to the judge and you will probably be excused. my experience with jury duty, for city and county cases, is one to two days max. federal court is different and you could be "on call" for two weeks or longer.
so, just go and find out what will be involved, and then make your decision with the judge's approval.

the best way is to avoid being selected- be very opinionated about something that would make either the defense or prosectution throw you out of the jury pool-

example if its a child abuse case then act absolutely disgusted the whole time and if you have kids make sure the defense knows this and they will try to toss you out of the pool

jury duty does pay you something- its probably not much though like $250 a week

If you want to get out of jury duty you have two options. one is to kindly ask not to be chosen for said duty, however they can deny this request if your an elligible candidate. you may also exclude yourself by saying unreasonable things. these include saying even remotely bias, rascist, or hateful things. or you could simply claim to know the defendant and your automatically exempt. i.e. "oh, yeah i know John doe. i went to school with him" or whatever. optionally you could feign physcosis

You can ask, but you most likely have to serve if you are chosen. Just tell them that you are pro-death penalty for traffic violations....I'm pretty sure the defense will eliminate you!!

You can plea for a hardship dfischarge, but they are RARELY given. When you are chosen to be a juror, you have to serve.
