The most recognized soccer player on the planet — fashion icon, tabloid fixture, marketing giant — agreed to a five-year deal Thursday to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer. He turned down a two-year contract extension from Real Madrid. The Galaxy didn’t say exactly what they’ll pay him, but it's rumored a figure of US$250 million in salary and commercial endorsements over the five years of his contract. In other words, $1 million a week. I think I need to take up soccer. Hope this helps.

He's going to a professional team in Los Angeles. I hear he'll be earning 1 million dollars a week.

I wonder if this will be the spark to FINALLY get Americans to give a damn about soccer... Somehow I doubt it.
