We are moving to France when I have completed the course but I speak no French. Would it be possible to teach English as a Foreign language or can anyone suggest other avenues I could explore

In short you can do anything you like! A degree is as much about demonstrating your capabilities in terms of study, learning, self-direction and motivation, analytical skills etc etc as it is the actual subject matter you are learning.

I don't know very many grads who work in a job directly related to their first degree. Your degree will stand you in good stead no matter what you decide to do.

TESOL is a good idea and you should investigate it further for certain. Your university should provide an Information, Advice and Guidance service who will be able to help you with career options and help you to identify opportunities for development.

If your Uni offers French modules I would recommend that in preparation for life in France because you'll need it for even just the basics like opening a bank account and doing the shopping. Again, speak to the Information, Advice and Guidance Team.

There are all sorts of options and thinking about it now is a great start. Take advantage of the information services that are out there - they don't bite!

Final word, having spent a year in France as part of my studies, work on the basis that you'll need several months to settle in. For the first three months I found it hard to understand much, but then suddenly someone flicked a switch and it all started to make sense.

Good luck

In France? That's a little bit difficult to say.
Before I read that you were moving to France, my idea was that you could teach English/History, though you might have to take a year or so of Education, I'm not really positive on how that works, exactly. But I'm sure that you could teach English as a second language in France. I'd say you should also learn French. Maybe you could work for an airline there, because they probably have to be bilingual. If you learned French, you could also work at some of the touristy attractions out there, ie: Eiffel Tower, Catacombes, the Louvre etc. Or in an American restaurant they have there, like the Hard Rock Cafe.

Good luck! :)

One course will not get you a teaching job. History of English Lit major might get you an English literature teaching job in an embassy or an American military base. To teach English as a foreign language, you need a different degree and be able to speak two languages.

Apart from anything else start to learn French now; there are usually plenty of beginners classes in adult education. If you want to teach in France you will need to have a basic grounding in the language, at least, to understand the students you are teaching. You might be able to get domestic work to keep you going but you will be very limited if you do not.
