I've gone into my print options and the background is already ticked but it's still coming out as a plain white sheet

Traditionally, backgrounds colors and images in MS Word are for web or online document display purposes. By default, they are not printed.
If you want the background to display:

1. Click the TOOLS menu
2. select OPTIONS.
3. Click the PRINT tab.
4. In the INCLUDE WITH DOCUMENT section, check the box labeled BACKGROUND COLORS AND IMAGES
5. Click OKAY

Now, when you print, your background images and documents will print to the page. To reset to default, just follow the same procedure and unchek the BACKGROUND COLORS AND IMAGES box.

Do not confuse the background printing box with printing the background of your document. Background printing allows you to continue editing your document while you print. However, unchecking this box will significantly speed up printing time, especially with larger documents.

Assuming that that's a colour printer, attempt a attempt print in a colour. If that prints ok then the black cartridge would nicely be empty or clogged. fairly than printing in white, that's per chance no longer printing in any respect!
