If women were to call guys that, they'd be one of the guys.

Different slang terms. For men, "dog" just means "guy." For women, a man who is a "dog" is someone who doesn't treat women well.

With men it's a term of endearment. ['You old dog' etc [meaning- you're very skillfull at something]] When women say it their eyes are flashing and they're spitting fire, and it just doesn't feel like much of a compliment.

well because when men say it to eachother more as a greeting.. like 'what up dog' i suppose its more like saying homie or whatever the lingo is. when women call men dogs, we are intentionally insulting them. =)

My boyfriend and all his friends call each other dog and when we started dating he started calling me dog..... I was like- NO NO NO NO this is not working for me! I am not one of your dogs!!! So he started calling me puppy- so now he and all his friends call me coco pup- no I don't like it!
