No, we have had far more ineffectual, hateful guys in there in the past.

John Reid's biggest mistake was saying that the Home Office was not fit for purpose.
An already demoralised Civil Service, working their guts out trying to fulfil the thousands of tasks thrown at them by an uncaring government, have probably turned against the UK-Gov.
The Home Office, as Clare Short said last night on Question Time, should be broken up into its constituent parts, and reformed as several departments but not as part of 'Home Office'. The Home Office should simply be scrapped.
One of the worst things any Gov can do, is slag off the Civil Service and Civil Servants.
John Reid (doctor death) comes across as an old Scotch Commie street fighter who only knows two things, right fist and left fist. I just hope the whole thing blows up in his face.

We should all be weeping for what is being done to our country by this government and the Opposition politicians. John Reid has had I think had 7/8 Ministerial jobs in ten years. Without exception he has been a disaster in them all but like Bliar nothing is ever his responsibilty or his fault. He has also been guilty of 'sharp practice' to say the least over public funds which were used by a company (in which his son Kevin was a leading light) to the advantage of the Scottish Labour Party.

I agree with you, Charles Clark looked like an add for Toby Jugs, but John Reid is the only Labour politician i like at the moment. I maybe going insane, but he seems to speak with some sincerity, and as he put it when he got the job, " I think I've been handed the poison challis ". Gorden Brown keeps trying to screw him up because he knows he is the only contender for the next PM, so he is in a tough position at the mo. I would give him more time before passing judgement on his abilities.

I consider you, Charles Clark gave the impact of an upload for Toby Jugs, yet John Reid is the in trouble-free words Labour flesh presser i love immediately. I per chance going insane, yet he looks to communicate with some sincerity, and as he placed it even as he were given the pastime, " i imagine i have been exceeded the poison challis ". Gorden Brown keeps attempting to screw him up because he's customary with he's the in trouble-free words contender for the subsequent PM, so he's in a puzzling position on the mo. i'd provide him more suitable time earlier passing judgement on his skills.

This is a terrible thing to say about poor Dr.Reid.
You should be ashamed of yourself for asking this question in such a manner.
Lest you forgot, THIS was the man who declared the Home Office "unfit for purpose" after just ten days, and within a fortnight, had hatched a brilliant strategic action-plan to deal with the problems.
This man is pure genius to his fingertips, and after what he has achieved at the Home Office, just think what he could do for the whole country.
We NEED men like that......like a hole in the head.

Yes, but if your referring to the recent problems his dept has suffered, you cannot put all the blame on him, as it was the last two previous home secretary's had a hand in the present problems too. But my own opinion on him is "he useless and will not be up to the job" that wont worry him, because with Gordon Brown behind him, he'll just be lining his own pocket, along with the rest of them.

He is just one of a number of mediocre nonentities which govern our country and we have to put up with him and the others until the next election when hopefully they will be despatched to oblivion. As an example look no further than Tony Blair who keeps sending our finest young men to be killed in wars which are none of our business, meanwhile always prancing around the world instead of attending to this country's business which is what he was elected to do.You do not see any other Prime Ministers from any of the other European countries doing that.He is another one who will go to America as soon as his term is up to milk them for big bucks.

The latest Labour tactic is this patronising "honesty". have any of the Cabinet got a clue about what goes on in their own department? I have to wonder and it provokes lots of emotions, anger, frustration, incredulity, even horror. This latest police file issue is unforgivable. Most of the politicians seem to be so arrogant and self righteous. Ugh. Where can I emigrate to?!

Lets face it most ministers in the Blair government are useless. Reid is no different he will lie and hide and blame everyone else. It takes a few brains to run a country and Blair and his cronies share only one small one.
